Travel day

With our flight not til lunch time we were able to get up at a reasonable 6.30am.  We finished packing and sorted our hand luggage then headed to Heathrow.

We left the car at terminal 2 car park for the meet and greet service, this year with Meteor.  We had done online check in so a quick passport check, bag drop and quiet security meant we were soon into departures looking for breakfast.  We ended up with some bacon rolls from (hmm can't remember name, will look it up) which were distinctly average and fairly tasteless.

Our flight with Air Canada left from one of the furthest gates so had a 15 minute walk to get there.  Within a couple of minutes we were invited to board.  Boarding was extremely quick a day efficient, and they were soon closing the doors and we were on our way!

Our plane was a 787-800 dreamliner .   Lovely aircraft, 1 minor niggle, the 3,3,3 configuration means the seats feel quite narrow, but the leg room was fine and there was plenty of overhead baggage space.  1 major design flaw is the positioning of the screen remotes on the armrest - in exactly the same position as elbows go!! Really daft!  You end up constantly upping and downing the volume on yours and your neighbours TV, or turning your film off,  or switching on and off the overhead reading lights.  Everyone was moaning about it.  Sarah and I ended up with the supplied pillow over the one between us which helped a bit.   Food on board was excellent - choice of pesto chicken, mash and ratatouille, which was juicy and tasty, or pasta in tomato sauce, which Sarah said was fab.  All came with roll, potato salad and cookie.   Snack before landing was chicken  or vegetable folded pizza.  We all had chicken which again was excellent.  There were also plenty of drinks.  Crew were efficient and friendly.  Great flight.

Stephen left his phone in the seat pocket as we got off, so after retrieving it was were effectively last off the plane.  Passport control at toronto wasn't great.  Think there must have been a few plane loads going through after the same time.  We were herded through loads of zig zaps claiming to be to stop queues forming in immigration hall.  Well that obviously doesn't Work!   Thankfully immigration seemed easier than US, with no photos or fingerprints taken.

Off to baggage reclaim, which after the delay meant the cases were waiting game for us, and off to find the car.

We had booked with Dollar and am pleased to report it was a pleasant experience with none of the hard sell and issues that seem to plague Orlando car Hire!   We have a Toyota Sienna, 7 seater, as booked, in white obviously, as both our own cars at home are white!!  Out with the sat nav and we were on our way out on to the spaghetti of airport roads!

Oh boy Toronto is busy.  We headed straight to Canada's Wonderland to collect our season ticket  but the 25 min estimate warned into over an hour, and the sun we had landed in had been replaced by dark clouds and pouring rain but the time we reached there.  Season passes took all of about 5 mins to do as we had ordered online and uploaded photos of ourselves.   Stephen was a bit disappointed to be there but not go in and ride, but we were getting tired and I really didn't fancy riding in the pouring rain!

Back on the road and the traffic was still really heavy.  Eventually got to the hotel about 7.30 after leaving the airport around 4!  Hungry and tired we dropped the bags in our rooms and found a New York Fries shop next to the hotel.  Fries with various topping, we had 3 bacon and cheese and 1 butter chicken.  Not too bad and certainly enough to fill us.

Hotel rooms are on the 10th floor with a glimpse of the city skyline off to one side, but not the CN Tower.  We were tucked up in bed by 9.30 local time (2.30 UK time) having been up about 20hrs.
Poor quality, dirty windows 10 floors up!
